Volunteering

There are all kinds of volunteer activities - sports and recreation, environment, health, arts and culture, education, and social services. We'll help you find what's right for you! Here are tips to finding the right volunteer position for you.

How do I Get Started Volunteering?

The Volunteer Centre has a registration form which is filled out to tell us about you, your interests, and your skills.

Contact us if you have questions, by phone (506) 658-1555 or email to vol.coordinator@nb.aibn.com. If you check Database on the application form, the Volunteer Centre will call you when future opportunities come up which match your interests.

To make a good match between you and the volunteer opportunites available, each volunteer is interviewed by the Referral Coordinator at the Volunteer Centre. In the interview, more information is gathered to help the Volunteer Centre. The interview process is really relaxed, by phone or preferably in person.

Choosing Your Volunteer Opportunities

You will learn about the many agencies and volunteer opportunities from which to choose. There are usually over a hundred to choose from.

There are many events that need volunteers too. This Calendar of Events shows the many events sponsored by our member agencies.

Then What?

Within two weeks, you will be contacted by the agency to which you were referred. They will want an interview with you and will tell you more about their agency and the volunteer position. Note: You may need to provide the agency with references and a Police Check.

What If I Change My Mind?

If for some reason you decide not to volunteer, let us know immediately. You can come back at another time and re-enter as a volunteer.

Volunteer of the Month

The ABC’s of Fraud Awareness Program team, administered through the Saint John Volunteer Office and sponsored by the New Brunswick Securities Commission, has been traveling around our province and city since 2001 giving presentations on how to protect all of us from frauds and scams. We have been blessed with many wonderful volunteers over the years, and this year we would like to particularly recognize one of them with the Volunteer Spirit Award. His name is Don Trueman and I’d like to tell you a little bit about Don and why we felt he so richly deserves this award. Don is a retired gentleman and joined the team in January of 2006. Since that time he has been a willing and articulate presenter for the ABC’s of Fraud team. He has been known to do a presentation in Fredericton in the afternoon and another in Saint John that same evening. His talks on Identity Theft are legend, but, more than that, it is Don’s willingness to step up to the plate whenever and wherever he is needed, that distinguishes him. He is always prepared, always positive, and certainly a pleasure to work with at all times. Don represents what we all look for in a volunteer; attitude, integrity, availability and heart.
